Experimental Panoramic Photography
In the spirit of the “Movin’ Stills” technique coined by the late, great Panorama Ray, Pirate Sophia was one of my earliest experimental shoots using the original method. Unlike traditional panoramic photography, the subject is directed to move during the capture, producing ghostlike, ethereal effects that blur time and motion into a single frame. Months earlier, Sophia had commissioned me to create this headdress for her pirate band performances. Then by luck, during a visit to St. Augustine, a pirate ship was docked in the harbor—waiting, it seemed, to become the perfect backdrop for this moment.

This experimental panoramic photography project is a tribute to the people of Oaxaca—their traditions, creativity, and deep cultural roots. Through portraits of Oaxacan individuals in traditional attire, using props that reflect their heritage, I explore how their culture has shaped the world through music, literature, fashion, culinary arts, and so much more. Being here has been incredibly inspiring for me as an artist; immersing myself in the culture and connecting with such warm, generous people has been pure bliss.
Havana is a truly inspiring place, with so much color and creativity on every street. The streets are always busy with people hanging out and living life. While it can be seen as a harsh reality to those who are not used to it, what I saw was every day people living the best way that they can.
Old Havana is not a large area, you can walk from one end to the other in 30 minutes. And if you don't want to walk, pedicabs are the way to go. This is an unintentional Movin' Still that just worked out without any directing.

A visit to Jamaica lands me right where I wished to be, in a meeting with one of only a few Natural Mystics left in the country. Changa Changa follows the rasta fari tradition truly, embracing natural and denouncing Babylon, by wearing only clothes he made of natural fibers found around him and touching no money ever.

Self portrait of the artist. My first attempt at experimenting with Panorama Ray's technique of creating "Movin' Stills", as he did with his 100 year old panoramic camera until his death in 1996. Ironically I was the last person that Ray photographed, in costume as the Snow Queen, so bringing this work forward creates, for me, a full circle in the art of art, life and death.
Each time I visit this beloved city, I must go visit the tree of life in Audubon Park. This magnificent being, hundreds of years old, is a friend to all that visit. Including the might little Olive dog.
Blues legend, Little Freddie King performing at DBA on Frenchman Street. What a lucky shot for the dance floor to clear so that I could capture his shadow below.
